Detroit Lions become first NFL team to use digital ticketing

Paperless ticketing systems have been making leisure activities like traveling and attending concerts easier for many citizens, but most major sporting events still require a physical copy of the ticket if fans want to gain entry. However, if the Detroit Lions are any indicator, that could change – the team just became the first in the NFL to forego Ticketmaster and adopt a paperless information management system.

According to Crain's Detroit Business, the new system will allow fans to enter the stadium with a digital ID. In addition, the new business process management system lets buyers easily transfer tickets online. 

"We remain committed to implementing innovative technologies throughout our organization with a goal of engaging fans in a consistent and meaningful way," said Tom Lewand, president of the Detroit Lions.

While the Lions are the first professional football team to implement a paper-free ticketing platform, Crain's Detroit Business stated that other professional sports organizations have adopted these services before. In the NBA, the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz are just two of the teams that allow paperless tickets, and the NHL's Colorado Avalanche uses digital ticketing systems as well.
