E-construction project success in Michigan

Friday, January 16, 2015

All kinds of industries have paperless success stories, one recent project provides an example of how content management services can help the construction sector.

The Michigan Department of Transportation decided to do away with paper for the revamping of a seven-mile stretch of Interstate 96.

For the rebuilding project, e-construction wasn’t just about removing paper, it was also about implementing new technologies.

Content management services and automated document workflows used on site made paper a thing of the past for road workers on I-96.

The paperless reconstruction began in earnest in 2013 with some pilot projects, one of which saved 170,000 pieces of paper and $300,000.

Estimates have the e-construction projects’ total savings pegged at over $1 million.
