ECM gains importance in competitive business world

Thursday, October 4, 2012

As the enterprise evolves and becomes more responsible for maintaining a substantial amount of files with a wide range of media types, enterprise content management (ECM) platforms will gain momentum. By using ECM, organizations can have a better grasp on the information under their control, enabling employees and processes to become more efficient, according to a report by Smart Business Network Online.

"Companies are using ECM in a wide variety of ways to solve diverse business problems," said Prashant Kothari, head of ECM practice for HTC Global Services, according to SBN Online. "New technology innovations are rapidly increasing the capabilities of ECM, making it an even more useful tool."

ECM technologies are becoming important as the shift from physical paperwork to digital format becomes more essential to everyday operations, as ECM tools will help firms reduce expenses by streamlining operations, the news source said.

A separate report by AIIM said it is no longer enough to simply "manage" information. As the private sector becomes increasingly competitive, decision-makers will be forced to adopt tools that will enable their organizations to meet evolving industry demands, as failing do so will hinder a firm's ability to stay on pace with rival businesses.
