Most law firms have ditched the filing cabinets for document management software, and it’s no wonder why.

A Robert Half Legal study found that 83 percent of law offices use some sort of e-filing system. And the reason for this is pretty significant – it saves a ton of money.

Filing cabinets may seem at best pretty useful, or at worst insignificant, but they’re expensive. You’re typical four-drawer file cabinet will hold between 15,000 and 20,000 pages. Pretty helpful, right?

Not really, when you look at how much you’ll be paying. The study found that on average, it costs $25,000 to fill that file cabinet, and $2,000 to maintain it each year. Losing the cabinets can help save thousands annually.
