NHS plans to go paperless by 2015

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

The National Health Service (NHS) of the U.K. revealed a plan that will have it eliminating paper and going entirely digital by 2015, in order to improve efficiency and reduce the loss of records. According to PharmaTimes, the agency believes that this system will provide improved, safer service for patients throughout the nation.

This attempt to bring the NHS "up to speed" with the latest technology has been eagerly anticipated, according to the news source, and will bring "more information, faster response and better service" to the agency.

While a major move for a national health organization, going paperless with a document management system is a bit less daunting for a private company to accomplish. With the right approach, training and tools, implementing a digital information solution can painlessly allow any business to enhance its operations and improve service all around. While these may seem like lofty goals, they are actually easily achieved.

Information management solutions allow a business to reduce clutter, records storage costs and the amount of physical space taken up by filing cabinets while eliminating printing and paper costs. However, the more important benefit of these systems is that they improve organization and access to data. By focusing on the management and distribution of records, rather than their storage, employees can work smarter and more productively almost immediately. This reduces costs of operations while increasing the potential for profits, which also helps the solutions pay for themselves.

For any organization, from a private software development company to a medical practice, document management can streamline workflow in many ways, and help accomplish organizational and productivity feats that may have seem impossible before.
