Small businesses need to adopt new technology

A recent report by the Center for an Urban Future stated that small businesses in New York City need to embrace the latest in technology, or risk losing business because of it.

The report, Smarter Small Businesses, examined businesses in New York City and found that, while 90 percent of the businesses in the Big Apple have less than 20 employees, only 20 percent of them are utilizing high-end technology. In the report, David Meade, executive director of the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation stated that small businesses in NYC are 10 to 15 years behind the times. However, while this lack of technology isn't currently affecting these companies' customer bases, it is affecting their ability to expand and attract new clientele.

One way for businesses to push forward with modern technology and gain a productivity advantage is to implement document imaging and management solutions. This will allow companies to dump paper records and go digital with their finances, stock records and more. Document management not only enhances productivity in the workplace, but increases a business' ability to comply with recordkeeping regulations.

As just one step in embracing the latest technology, information management and going paperless will help a company reduce operational costs, increase efficiency and run smoother overall.
