More schools adopting mobile devices, paperless initiatives

The education industry appears to be aggressively and enthusiastically adopting the technologies and strategies to not only improve administrative and educational efforts, but also reduce the amount of paper consumed in educational facilities. According to TabTimes, many are accomplishing this by investing in tablets.

Smart devices, such as iPads and Android tablets, can help schools significantly in a variety of ways, from simplifying attendance taking, grading and collaboration for teachers, allowing students to accomplish assignments and submit them digitally or take "virtual field trips." According to the news source, however, the goal of going paperless is one of the biggest reasons that tablets are driving in education.

In order to develop a paperless strategy, schools will need more than an iPad and hope, though. Most, if not all, will also need to implement a high-quality document management solution. This will help them organize and maintain digital information more smoothly, and eliminate a great deal of other forms of paper consumption, such as record keeping.

Additionally, some teachers feel that the benefits of tablets in the classroom transfer more to the student, or are limited by network access or the ability to include varying device platforms. This can be solved with the addition of a dedicated IT team, and the right security protocols.

The combination of digital information management solutions and the mobility and flexibility of tablets can help schools innovate and explore new ideas in the classroom, in administration and through the student body as well. These efforts can help drive education, get students more involved in learning and reduce the amount of time it takes teachers to perform administrative duties, allowing them to focus on the more important task of teaching the nation's youth.
